Grant will Highlight St George’s Heritage
The St Georges Community Group are proud to announce they have been awarded a National Lottery grant for the North Telford Heritage Trail project, which will engage the local community in celebrating the area’s rich heritage.
The £10,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) will enable the project to create a trail route, website and app, hold a series of community events, and provide training for a team of project volunteers.
An idea for the route has been produced by former Granville Colliery Miners, Malcolm Peel, Stewart Braddock and Cliff Hewitt.
Throughout the project programme of activity the wider community will be involved in the formation of the Heritage Trail, which will encompass Industrial Mining Sites, Past and Present Transport Links and People’s Memories of the area’s unique and evolving communities.
Working with volunteers, Shropshire Archives, Telford & Wrekin Council Pride Officer and Telford Community Payback Team, a smartphone application and web site page will be connected to The Heritage Trail for everybody to explore and enjoy in the future.
Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, the project will launch on Wednesday 31st May 10am (weather permitting) with a day-long event travelling around the route of the trail idea. The starting point to meet will be Priorslee Avenue Car Park (opposite the drs surgery). We will be stopping off for refreshments in St Georges to get your feedback on the North Telford Heritage Trail idea. The route is 6 miles long.
There are lots of opportunities to get involved. We will be recruiting a Project Consultant to engage and support volunteers positively and to plan and deliver events. We will also be recruiting volunteers to take on many roles within the project. Volunteers will be supported with training and expenses.
