Telford Buildings Increase Security

Telford Buildings Increase Security

In the wake of the Manchester bombing, and the national security level set to critical, a number of people are turning up to work in Telford today seeing security guards for the first time.

There is a scale, and at one end you have people of the opinion that we should not do anything to change our behavior in light of terrorist activity, and at the other end are those who feel that everything possible should be done to reduce the threat.

Where do you sit on the scale?

I don’t think there’s much we can do to stop them. Especially the basic unsophisticated attacks using cars or vans.

Even if this idiot with a suicide vest was discovered, what would he have done? Detonated it there and then. Net result is the same.

Do whatever it take to keep our children safe, if army personnel and more security is needed I fully welcome that

I think actions should be taken, but I’m not sure increased security guards is the right action.

I think do what you can to reduce the threat, but how do you stop a suicide bomber intent on destruction?

Yet haven’t seen one single police officer in Telford town centre today. (Or any other day in the last 10 years I’ve worked in Telford)

Security guards wouldn’t be able to stop any situation when it comes to terrorism, we need all police officers armed and armed security, no disrespect to any security guards but what are they going to do? shout stop.

No criticism of police, armed forces or security services, because they are between a rock and a hard place, but this is exactly what all terrorist groups want – disruption, fear and division. That’s how they create the ideal conditions for further recruitment. It was the same with the IRA/UDA 40 years ago. On a practical level, there is little you can do to stop individual glory hunters with access to a vehicle or crude explosives, but hopefully the intelligence services have the resources they need to stop as many attacks before they happen.

We’re at war, we need protection. I don’t care if increased security and disrupting our routine is playing into the hands of terrorists, we can’t continue pretending it’s all going to be ok if we hold a candlelit vigil and share memes on social media. These are people who will happily blow up children thinking that it will get them into heaven. We aren’t crazy enough to compete with that, the best we can hope for is to disrupt the nutters and minimise the damage. We need extreme vetting of newly arrived immigrants (legal or illegal), we need mosque leaders more involved with the wider community (not just school trips) to help root out those who tolerate extremism, we need a zero tolerance approach to deportation of violent foreign criminals and we need to make more use of curfews, tagging orders and house arrest. I am very reluctant to give the authorities any more power to curtail civil liberties than they already have but we are at war and it’s a consequence of war.

You do realise that the person involved in the Manchester bombing was born in the UK don’t you? There is very little that can be done. These people are getting radicalised over the internet. I don’t have the answers but I doubt if increased security guards is going to help the situation

I get the increase in security!! However an unarmed security guard has nothing to defend the amount of people within the centre!! And let’s face it, these morons are after hurting people, they don’t even need to get into the centre to cause destruction!! They set out with one thing in mind!! They don’t care if it’s done on the town park with hundreds of children or in the centre itself!! They out to kill!! They don’t care who they are or where they are!!
