Dog owners urged to be vigilant.

Dog owners urged to be vigilant.

A discarded fishing hook at a Telford pool resulted in a £150 vet bill.

Anglers should take more care with their tackle said a Telford pet owner. While out walking, Poppy the dog found some abandoned fishing tackle and sadly, it got embedded in her mouth. The dog had to have a vet remove the barbed hook at a cost of £150.

The tackle was left at Stirchley Grange where fishing is not allowed.

I agree Wayne, and they eat the fish, the other thing they do is leave the lines in the water over night.

Hope Poppy makes a full recovery bless her.

Coming from the anglers side too. I used to fish down Apley and always took care of my stuff but some dog walkers used to let their dogs come running down and jump into the water right in the area where I was fishing. The dog/s would scavenge around for bits of food to see what they could find too.

So as much as it’s the anglers to take care can dog owners also take care when walking their pets near to where people fish. Yes this was done somewhere that fishing is prohibited but it still goes on there. The taking care needs to come from both sides.
