Three weekly bin collections?

Three weekly bin collections?

Reducing domestic refuse collections have been seen as an easy way of reducing costs for local authorities. Taking rubbish away every three weeks is now a reality for over 1 million residents in areas like Wigan and Leicestershire, but will Telford & Wrekin adopt the service reductions?

There is no doubt about the council’s desire to cut costs, having passed services such as libraries and environmental services to parish & town councils. It seems that extending the gap between bin collections is a step too far, and Telford & Wrekin Council have said a firm NO to three weekly collections.

I recycle a lot, I could manage the three weekly bin collections, if they were going to offer somewhere for me to put my food waste and disposable nappy waste, I keep getting maggots in the bin as it is!

Where I lived in Greater Manchester they have 3 weekly collections. It’s a disgrace. Bin bags all over the streets overflowing & rats & mice all over the place. Much better here with fortnightly.
Cheeky buggers increased the council tax though!

They would need to provide more bins per household , they barely hold a weeks rubbish for a family

maybe it would be better them not spend 7.5 million on a new bridge at the Telford station , a lick of paint and a few disabled alterations would do the trick there, and 2.2 million on the celebration of 50years of Telford , there thats a bit of cost cutting done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a point of clarification – the money being spent on the new footbridge is not council money, it is mostly from the Department for Transport with some Section 106 money. If this money was not being spent on the footbridge, it would not be spent in Telford at all but on a similar landmark project elsewhere in the country. We therefore can’t suddenly decide to spend the money on something else in the borough as it simply not our money.

      Kind regards

      T&W

Three weekly collections are not on the agenda for T & W. It will not happen. Not sure why it is even being discussed. It is not going to happen. Hope that is clear?
