Telford deserves a better train service

Telford deserves a better train service

Local MPs Mark Pritchard & Lucy Allan both spoke in favour of improving rail facilities and services for the people of Telford at Parliament today.

Two trains to Birmingham, 15 mins apart, two carriage sardine tins, and our crumbling stations all came under fire.

“Telford is an exciting place to live. Without doubt, it is one of the most successful towns in the midlands, economically and in terms of quality of life. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary in Telford and look to our future, we must ensure that our rail services match our economic growth and our huge ambitions for the future”

Major investment by the new franchise operator has already been announced and an extra train service to Birmingham on the half hour promised.

Do take part in the big squeeze between Telford & Birmingham?

We definitely need another train around 30mins past hour, more carriages and cleaner trains…however users need to take responsibility too.. regularly see people getting off the train and leaving their rubbish behind and passengers at the stations leaving rubbish on chairs when there are bins a foot away!

I completely avoid it, drive to wolves and jump on the trains from there… if it happens, brilliant. But as above comments state… believe it when it happens and prioritise PRH before the trains!

Agree that need to sort prh out – absolutely. However 12 years now I’ve done the commute and its just horrendous, it’s got worse not better with fares hiking fast. Trains are overcrowded and filthy dirty makes a stressful experience.

Another bandwagon for our useless MP to jump on, a few photo ops no doubt, but absolutely no action at all. The new franchise has already said an extra service is coming. Leave the choo-choos alone Lucy, and sort the hospital out. Higher priority than this. But I won’t hold my breath. I’m still waiting for Lucy to come good on here pre-election promise on hospital parking charges. And we all know how that’s gone, so not sure she can influence anything to do with future fit.

Would rather leave 2 hours before I’m due in work and sit on the M6 than use the trains to Birmingham

The 06.53 this morning and the 17.25 last night was a 2 carriage nightmare. So painful with the push and shove. It’s like getting a train in a third world country.

Buying a car at the weekend as sick of paying for an annual pass and trains are crammed like sardines, todays train was cancelled and no reason given, couldn’t get on last nights train as not enough carriages. Train never arrives at destination on time

The service is disgraceful, the trains are dirty and expensive. Telford Central is probably the most apocalyptically depressing train station in the Midlands

We all agree the trains need improving, times, amount of carriages and cleanliness.

But as a lot of people have also said we seriously need to keep the A&E department at Telford hospital, it would be a damn disgrace if we lost this especially after all the new houses going up bringing new people into area. We increase the population around here then we need to keep the facilities available for each and every one of us. We shouldn’t have to travel to Shrewsbury for an emergency, it takes time and lives are bound to be lost along the way. Keep the A&E department at the PRH!!

We also need and deserve an MP who can get the most basic of facts correct. In her latest e-newsletter Lucy Allan claims that local “Performance, against the NHS’s 4 hour target, is up, compared with this time last year.” yet the NHS statistics confirm a drop from 78% in 12/16 to 69.3% in 12/17. In the run up to the 2015 election she also had an article claiming £5bn of benefit fraud savings in just one year. DWP figures confirmed that total benefit fraud in the UK was less than a 1/4 of the supposed saving, and the actual saving was £0. I take everything that she says with an even larger pinch of salt than I do all other politicians.

Our mps need to vote against public spending cuts…. that way, we will have more money to spend on the railways and we can improve the service

    Simple isn’t it… unless your a Tory….they simply don’t get it!

Don’t waste your time, they won’t achieve anything and they will get voted back in
