Ex-Mayor of Telford Quits Labour

Cllr Kevin Guy, who was returned as borough Councilloe to the Woodside ward in 2015, has announced that he is leaving the Labour party.

“I have decided to join the Liberal Democrats because I believe Jeremy Corbyn is taking the Labour Party in the wrong direction & Labour’s fudge on a second referendum is not something I agree with.”

While Cllr Guy is joining the Lib Dems, he offered his support to the Labour Council.

“The Labour run council in Telford & Wrekin have done a fantastic job in defending local people from the savage Tory cuts & I will continue to support that but I cannot stay in a party which, nationally, I so fundamentally disagree with on the main issue facing this generation.”

The next elections for Telford Borough Council are due in 2019.

He’s not a traitor, he’s just shown his true colours and this will not be a surprise to anyone in Labour. If he can’t back the Labour Party Policies I’m very happy he’s found the right Party for himself.

Kevin has openly stated he supports the good work done by the council on the face of mass cuts. His issues are with the national party. Personally I wish him well. He’s a worker whichever party he is a member of.

Fair play to Kev, he’s a principaled man who is a voting with his feet and I, for one, respect him for his decision. Labour will be poorer for the loss of a man who was in touch with all his constituents. He is a model labour councillor but if you don’t believe in the direction the party is taking how can you sell the dream?

Well played Kevin, good luck to you.
