Veolia EnvoroGrant Benefits Community Groups

Groups across Telford and Wrekin have been handed a £13,000 boost for projects which benefit the community or environment. A repair cafe, scout hut and community garden are among 16 projects which have been awarded funding.

The grants have been handed out by Telford & Wrekin Council in conjunction with their recycling and waste contractor Veolia as part of the EnviroGrant scheme.

The £13,000 handed out last night takes the total awarded across Telford and Wrekin through the Envirogrant scheme to more than £40,000, since it was established in 2015.

The range of successful organisations attended a special event at Brookside Central last night where they received their funding awards.

The presentations were made by Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services & the Pride in Our Community programme, Councillor Raj Mehta Mayor of the borough, and Steve Mitchell, Midlands West Director of Veolia. The EnviroGrant is part of the added value brought to the borough through the contract Telford & Wrekin Council have with Veolia.

Steve Mitchell said, “We’re delighted to support local groups through these grants. EnviroGrant is just one of the ways Veolia help the local community as part of the added value we provide within our work in the borough.”

Councillor Shaun Davies said, “I am pleased to have met people here tonight who are dedicated to making a real difference in their communities. The EnviroGrant scheme is now open for applications again – community organisations can apply for up to £1,000 for projects based in the borough of Telford and Wrekin. The application is relatively straightforward to complete and Veolia and Telford & Wrekin Council want these funds to go to where they are needed the most.”

If you would like to apply for the next round of the EnviroGrant Scheme you can do so now; there is also a Sports Funding grant with grants of up to £500. Deadline for applications is 31st January 2019 and application forms are available to download from https://www.veolia.co.uk/telford-and-wrekin/veolia-telford-and-wrekin/working-community
