Wellington Day of Dance – A Celebration of Border Morris
April 14 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm
For perhaps the first time in its history, Wellington welcomes not one but five Morris dancing sides from across the region in a day-long celebration of a Border Morris. The event is hosted by our local side, The Ironmen and Severn Gilders, who sprang to life in 1976 in Ironbridge. Their distinctive black and red kit with its flash of gold represents the Ironbridge Gorge’s proud industrial heritage – coal and fire in the furnaces, and the gilding on Coalport china. They will be joined by Alvechurch Morris, Bow Brook Morris, Foxes Morris and Plum Jerkum Morris – all of which dance in the lively, raucous Border Morris tradition.
Wellington’s postponed Charter Day festivities will also be spliced into the programme, starting with the arrival of the King’s Messenger at 10.30am and followed by the convening of the costumed Manor Court at midday (time to be confirmed). It’ll be a loud and colourful day in Wellington and one not to be missed!
Please note that since this was added to the calendar stuff may have changed. It’s not my fault, it just happens sometimes.
