Wellington Festival: Spectacular Evening of Award Winning Poetry

Experience tales of love, life and loss, myth and mystery, as totally blind poet and writer, BJ Edwards performs a selection of poems from his recently published collection, Tesserae. Go into the green woods where the secrets lurk, watch the fool rant at the moon, Feel the fever of delirium, the pain of parting and the ecstasy of desire. Listen to the fire dance, hear the drum beat, and be immerse.
Alison Brackenbury’s grandfather, Francis William Powell, was born in Shifnal in 1890. As a child, she loved his affectionate stories of Shropshire. Her reading will include poems about her grandfather’s life as an Edwardian gamekeeper and as a soldier, tackling mud and mules in the Great War. Alison’s poetry has won an Eric Gregory and a Cholmondeley Award. Her ninth collection, ‘Skies’, published by Carcanet in 2016, was chosen by ‘The Observer’ as one of its Poetry Books of the Year. She is a regular contributor to Radio 4’s arts programme, ‘Front Row’.
Augustus Stephens is a writer and performer of one-person-shows with a special interest in mental health / illness. He brings a small selection of his characters that will warm your heart and give you a giggle with the stories of their struggles and triumphs, along with a few poems and silly songs.
