Yes, 10th July is a good day for Wellington. The Sounds in the Square series of free music events in the centre of town features Driftwood this week from 11am to 1pm and in Bowring Park it’s Lions Day on Wheels from 10am to 4pm. Its all free!

Telford CultureFest 2010

Coming up around the town, we have CultureFest 2010 at the Town Park on the 24th of July.

Billed as ‘a free festival of music, dance, sport and the creative arts providing a showcase opportunity for talented local people and the chance to try your hand at a wide range of free leisure time activities. It’s a great day out in the park for people of all ages.’ it’s a chance to enjoy some sunshine and listen to a lineup of local bands in the park for free.

I went last year and spent an enjoyable afternoon listening to bands in the park. Take a picnic and something to sit on.

An hour of headscratching and I think we’ve sorted the ‘not being able to log in’ problem that some new users were having. If you were trying to log in and seeing a ‘Site Suspended’ or ‘Cookies not enabled’ error, you might just find that this works now.

England progress

VW Beetle designed and built in Germany

I missed much of the first half of the game sitting in the waiting room of Shrewsbury driving test centre waiting for my lad to take his driving theory test. After an excellent result there, we made it to The Crown in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury to catch the last ten minutes of the game before haring it down the A5 during half time to get back home for the second half. Haring it means nearly 65mph in a 1968 VW Beetle.

A good result, tempered only by the late goal from the USA who now top our group. This means that there is a good chance we will face Germany on Sunday afternoon. I’ll probably be venturing down the Captain Webb again, but leaving the VW Beetle at home, just in case…

Just been to the bank in Wellington and dropped in on a client. Glorious sunshine and so nice to see students from New College (I think) lying on the grass enjoying the sun in their lunch break.

Be aware that the new pedestrian developments are under way so expect road closures in the centre until October.

Blists Hill Victorian Town

I hope that you can help. As you may be aware, Blists Hill Victorian Town in Ironbridge has reached the Short-list of the Art Fund Prize for Museum of the Year 2010, the largest arts prize in Britain.

The Museum is up against some significant competition including the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford and Ulster Museum, part of the National Museums of Northern Ireland.

Ironbridge has to prove strong support from its visitors and friends if it is to stand a chance of winning the £100,000 prize and you can help by voting on the Art Fund Prize website until 18 June 2010. As a charity, Ironbridge does not receive any statutory funding from either central or local government and if the Museum was fortunate enough to win the prize, it would use the funds to create a new education and gallery space in the Museum of Iron for the many thousands of school children who visit each year from Shropshire and beyond.

Telford, not quite Antigua

I’ve had the most amazing morning talking to a client who left Telford a few years back for the somewhat warmer Antigua in the Carribean. She presented me with a photo of the area of the island she live in. It’s so jaw-droppingly stunning, I cannot begin to describe how this place looks (so I found a picture!), and I’m sure I couldn’t describe what its like, having never been there. Its on my list of place to see before I die though.

This weekend is one of those weekends to avoid the M54 if you are headed out of Telford in the direction of the M6. Yes, its the Cosford Air Show on Sunday 13th June.

Why not get down your local and watch the football instead? You can add your local pub to your profile, and view other people who use the pub as well.

Severn Hospice Charity Car Wash

ChipsAway in Telford are holding a charity car wash in aid of the Severn Hospice on 19th June (Saturday) from 11am until 1pm, so you can still get home for the World Cup game!
