Raphaels Restaurant Shifnal
Went to Rafael's in Shifnal on Saturday. Tried to book the Old Orleton but they were fully booked again!
You have to ring the bell before they let you in! Very odd.
Seven of us went, and the place only seats around 25. If you are looking for a Frankie and Bennys style, lively place this is NOT for you. If you are looking for some quality hand made food with some thought, you could do worse than give Rafael's a try.
I had Butternut Squash soup to start, a real treat, others had Gruyere Cheese flan thing with looked and tasted great.
Main course, I opted for a risotto, although I'm not a rice fan this was very nice. Mrs Andy had a mushroom and nut strudel which she enjoyed. Meat eaters had rib eye steak (no steak knives though) which also went down well.
The thing that separates this restaurant from many others is the thought that goes into the accompanying vegetables. The menu suggests 'interesting vegetables' and thats exactly what they were.
Potatoes, sliced and baked in a dish in a garlic sauce, pureed carrots, broccoli and red cabbage. Very interesting and a very nice departure from the norm.
Dessert I had a Drambuie and Vanilla Panna Cotta, but there were sorbets and ice cream choices too.
Total cost around £200 including drinks. All in all, a nice experience and I would go again.
God awful website, but don't let that put you off. Visit Website
