Telford Comedy Club
Ticklers Comedy Club Based in the Telford International Centre''s Cafe Mondial, Ticklers comedy club must be one of the best kept secrets in the area.
Comedy Corridor The venue is small and fairly crowded which adds to the atmosphere is what is essentially an alleyway in Telford as compare Dan so accurately described it.
Efficient Staff and Good Prices The staff at the Cafe Mondial were extremely efficient at serving beer throughout the night and very friendly. With tickets priced at £6.00 and Carling, Worthington and Cider at just £2.25 a pint makes for a cheap night out. Often refreshments at these ''captured audience'' venues are priced accordingly, but not here, well done to all concerned for keeping that reasonable.
Food for Thought There was an option for Fish and Chips but we ate before we went. Doors open at 7:30pm and if you don't want to sit at the front, get there earlier than we did!
On with the show We arrived at 8:15pm and sat very near the front so was fair game for the audience participation bit. This can be off putting if you have an aggressive act, but no one at this show was too intimidating.
The show started promptly at 9pm with Dan who runs a comedy club in Nottingham comparing for the evening. Dan did a great job of engaging the audience, exchanges with those at the front who weren't too forthcoming for fear of being picked on. They shouldn't have worried too much, the less they said, the more Dan could use his not inconsiderable imagination to wonder what a group of five large guys got up to in their spare time.
On with the first act, Dave Dynamite. High energy, in your face comedy was Dave’s style. First act on is always a difficult gig, but the effort Dave put in really paid off and got the crowd going. The Yoda on disablilty benefit fraud was novel, and the large family gags had me laughing.
A short beer break and then the next act was introduced as a comic who was here to try out some new material. Tom Binns is currently a DJ with Kerrang radio who has has spells on TV and a few years back was big on the comedy circuit. A relatively short set, but his Jamie Oliver material was well delivered and went down well. His Spanish material needs polishing, but that why he was there.
Straight on to the headline act, a Canadian comic by the name of Tom Stade. This guy was worth the entrance fee alone. An incredibly engaging, confident and assured performance covering a range of subjects and observations from shopping at Primark to a drug enabled trip up the A1 and his male female relationship observations were a real treat. Tom is a real professional; his slow paced delivery takes you on a journey that leaves you hanging on his every word.
Quality Night Out Make no mistake, Telfords Tickler Comedy Club is no apology for a night out, these are first rate acts, established on the comedy scene. With most of the club nights being a sell out, you will need to book early to be part of the best kept secret around. Even if it is held in an alley.
