What are these canisters appearing around Telford?
A few people are posting pictures of small discarded canisters they find as they walk around the town. Often accompanied by deflated balloons and found in secluded spots, just what is going on?
The canisters might appear familiar to cooks & chefs as one use for them is to create whipped cream but no one is making cakes after dark up the Wrekin.
The canisters contain Nitrous Oxide, commonly known as laughing gas (N20). The canisters are pierced and the gas is released into a balloon where it warms up and is then inhaled as a recreational drug.
The sale & supply of these canisters for human consumption was banned in May 2016 although as cooking tools, they are still widely available online.
Locally, the spent canisters have been spotted on the Wrekin and at Nedge Hill this weekend. Have you seen them? Share a location below.
