Revealed, the reason behind the odd-looking cars spotted around Telford

You may have seen a Land Rover with a distinctive black and white full wrap cutting about the area and wondered what it is.

A few years ago the Google Street Car was the cause of many scratched heads, and these black and white 4x4s share some similarities, not least the mirror gizmo fixed to the roof.

It can be revealed that the these Land Rovers appear to part of the £8m Bosch project to map out the roads, ready for the rise of autonomous vehicles.

The project, entitled ConVEx (Connected Vehicle data Exchange) is led by Bosch. The consortium includes Jaguar Land Rover, Transport for West Midlands, WMG, and three SMEs: Valerann, Synaptiv and Immense Solutions.

Project lead for Bosch, Prof. Nick Reed (Head of Mobility R&D, Bosch UK), said:
“We all recognise that there is tremendous value to be gained in the sharing of data to support the development and deployment of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs). We also know there is significant global competition to deliver the future mobility systems which will revolutionise the movement of people and goods around the world.”

This one was captured on the A442 by Steve@rjpr.co.uk on his dashcam.
