Charity Shop raided for fourth time in four months

Charity Shop raided for fourth time in four months

The Oakengates Red Cross charity shop was broken into on Saturday night for the fourth time in four months.

No cash left on the premises, the intruders turned over the shop, leaving it in real state.

This latest incident has left charity workers asking simply ‘Why?’, after similar raids on other charity shops in the same town over the past few weeks.

Telford Live did ask a prominent local Cllr for a comment the last time this happened, but no response.

What is going on? Is there someone with a vested interest to have these shops leave Oakengates?

Why would you keep going back to a charity shop? And the same charity shop at that? There can’t be much of value in there to begin with?

My heart really goes out to the staff and volunteers. They must be devastated to be continually picking up the pieces when all they want to do is help people. I can only assume charity shops are perceived as ‘low hanging fruit’ making them easy targets locally for those looking for a quick fix. What is apparent is that current security measures in this area are not robust enough to deter would be thieves, nor is basic human decency or compassion.

It’s all well and good spending a fortune doing up the wakes and tarting the place up, what about dealing with the real issues.

I don’t know the circumstances and why this shop keeps getting targeted but regardless of who’s responsible do they not know there damaging oakengates as a whole. Insurance prices here are going to be high and the break in issues are just going to deter Bussiness from coming to oakengates and force existing Bussiness to leave eventually oakengates will be completely empty
