A442 clean-up underway

Work is taking place this week to clear litter from the A442. Telford & Wrekin Council is carrying out the extra cleaning as part of its Pride in Our Community programme.

Crews from idverde are focusing on the central reservation and verges. This is one of the busiest routes in the borough.

Traffic management is currently in place. Rolling lane closures are being used to keep workers safe. The council aims to keep disruption to a minimum, but drivers should allow extra time for their journeys.

Councillor Carolyn Healy, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning & Sustainability, said: “Our crews are working hard to keep our borough clean and tidy. We have increased the number of times the A442 is cleansed due to the amount of litter that accumulates.”

“As always, we aim to keep disruption to motorists to a minimum and are grateful to motorists for their patience while clean-up takes place.”

Littering is a criminal offence. Enforcement officers are taking a tough stance on those who break the law.

Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing & Enforcement, added: “Littering is a criminal offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and our enforcement officers continue to act robustly on cases reported to us.

“Anyone seen throwing litter from a vehicle risks receiving a fixed penalty notice of £150, even if they were not the driver at the time.”

The council is asking the public for help. If you see someone throwing litter from a car, you should note the registration plate and vehicle details. These can be emailed to recyclefortelford@telford.gov.uk or reported via 01952 388 800.
