Council hosts cost of living advice event for older people

A special advice event is being held in Telford next week, for older people in the borough who are concerned about the increasing costs of living.

The event, being held at Meeting Point House in Telford Town Centre on Wednesday 13 July, will bring together a range of experts from the council and partner organisations to offer advice and information, discuss concerns and signpost people to support available. The free event is open to anyone aged 50 or over.

Councillor Shaun Davies (Labour), Leader of Telford &Wrekin Council, said: “People across the borough are struggling with the cost of living crisis, particularly older people who have limited incomes or who receive fixed benefits, neither of which has increased in line with rising costs.

“We know that for many households this is a significant challenge and we’re on our residents’ side. We’ve invited a range of experts from the council and partner agencies, who’ll be on hand to give advice, answer questions and help people access the support they are entitled to.”

Councillor Paul Watling (Labour), Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities, continued: “This free event is for anyone over the age of 50 living in the borough who is concerned about the rising costs of living, including increasing fuel and energy bills, food costs and other bills. We’ll have experts on hand between 10am and 2pm to answer questions and offer financial, benefits and energy advice to help with the cost of living crisis.”

The event is being held at Meeting Point House near Southwater Square in Telford Town Centre TF3 4HS, between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 13 July, 2022.

Advice and support will be available from a range of organisations including the Pension Service, Citizens Advice Centre, Marches Energy Advice, Age UK, Forum 50+ plus other services from the council.
