£500 Donation helps brightens up station

Wellington Rotary has shown its support for local volunteers by making a £500 donation to the Friends of Wellington Station (FoWS). The funding will be used to provide plants for a newly installed planter, as well as refreshing the lavender terrace on Platform 1, as part of wider efforts to improve the station environment.

The idea came from outgoing Rotary president Geoff Foulkes, who asked members to suggest local causes to support. Members were so impressed by the ongoing work of the Friends to enhance Wellington Station that they voted to back the project. Current Rotary president Peter Seaward said:
“Wellington Rotary is delighted to support the Friends of Wellington Station. We are incredibly grateful for the work they do to enhance such an important gateway to our town.”

The planter is part of a larger Communities Fund Grant from West Midlands Trains, which has already funded refurbishment work on platform buildings and the creative ‘Windows on Wellington’ project, filling vacant windows with vibrant images celebrating the town and surrounding countryside.

Antony Hook, Chair of Friends of Wellington Station said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Wellington Rotary for their generous donation and support. The new planter will help brighten up the station and make it even more welcoming for visitors and residents alike. Community support like this really makes a difference and inspires us to continue our work to make Wellington Station a place the town can be proud of.”

Local group Wellington Local Agenda 21 has also adopted another planter at the station, highlighting the strong community spirit at the heart of the improvements.
