Nursery has ‘open and positive culture’ say inspectors

A Telford day nursery caring for more than 140 babies and young children has shown ‘significant improvement’ and is now rated Good by Ofsted inspectors.

Kids Planet Day Nursery Apley had previously been rated as ‘Requires Improvement’ with concerns over safety and teaching after an inspection in May, 2024.

But in an Ofsted report published on Monday (April 28, 2025) the nursery in the grounds of Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, has been praised as providing a “warm, welcoming and inclusive environment.”

Inspectors Karen Laycock and Anne Dyoss, visited the nursery, in Grainger Drive, Leegomery, in March.

Their report said: “Children arrive full of excitement and enthusiasm. Babies are happy and content.

“They quickly become busy, active and engaged in the stimulating activities staff provide. Staff are good role models who have high expectations for children’s behaviour.”

They add that leaders have made “significant improvement” since the last inspection and that “parents are extremely happy with the nursery.”

On safeguarding Ofsted now says the arrangements are “effective” and there is an “open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children’s interests first.”

Inspectors have told leaders that to further improve they should “help staff with planning and implementation of the curriculum” and provide staff with “precisely focused professional development.”

At the time of inspection the nursery, which was registered in 2023, had places for 194 babies and toddlers up to the age of four. It had 142 on the roll.

The nursery opens Monday to Friday, all year round. Sessions are from 7.30am until 6pm. There are 29 members of childcare staff employed.

The nursery is in receipt of early education funding for children from nine months up to four years of age.

Kids Planet has been asked for comment.
