A Place to Remember: Community Rallies for Dawley Baby Memorial Garden
A deeply personal journey for one local couple is blossoming into a heartfelt community project: the creation of a much-needed Baby Memorial Garden within Jubilee Woods on Dawley Bank.
This dedicated space aims to offer solace and remembrance for families in Telford who have experienced pregnancy and baby loss, an amenity currently unavailable in the borough.
Shaun and his partner embarked on this poignant mission after experiencing a miscarriage last September. During their healing process, they discovered two small charities offering vital support to families facing similar bereavements. It was at a coffee morning with one of these charities that the idea of a dedicated memorial garden for Telford first took root.
With the location now agreed upon with Dawley Town Council, work has officially begun on site to bring this serene garden to life. However, to see this vital project through to completion, Shaun and his partner are appealing to the generous spirit of the Telford community for support.
They are seeking assistance in various forms: donations of materials, offers of labour, or financial contributions to help fund a steel Memorial Tree that can hold up to 400 memorial plaques.
Shaun is no stranger to rallying community support for a good cause. His family is well-known for their annual Christmas Lights show, which raises significant funds for charity. He has already been actively organising fundraisers at Wrekin Housing schemes, successfully raising around £2,000 so far at events in Apley and Dawley.
Another fundraiser is planned for Walton Court in Oakengates on July 10th.
The project has already garnered support from a range of local businesses and entertainers, including QA Kitchens, AST Flooring, Signs Express, Tesco, Golden Bear, Asda, Weston Park, and Frames Express. Local entertainers Tom Wenlock, Dave Sheriff, Paul Watkins, and Terry Drury have also lent their talents to fundraising efforts.

This is absolutely fantastic it is a two minute walk away from me and I didn’t even know about it… people could leave decorated stones there etc… I leave decorated stones for my grandson at the national memorial arboretum sands ( still births and neonatal deaths) garden. I will pop up and lend a hand. Love, Nannie Angie x x
