Archery Ace Shoots for Europe
A talented Telford archer is aiming for international success this summer after being selected to represent Great Britain at the European Youth Cup in Catez, Slovenia. Sixteen-year-old Lewis, a junior recurve archer on the Archery GB Olympic Pathway, needs the community’s support to make his dream a reality as the trip is self-funded.
Lewis began shooting at just eight years old and his dedication quickly saw him join the Archery GB National Age Group Academy by the age of 10. Under the guidance of his coach Nicky, he has steadily progressed, now reaching the Conversion Academy – the crucial next step towards World Class Level and potentially the 2028 or 2032 Olympics.
Currently ranked second in the UK Men’s Under 18 Recurve Category, this will be Lewis’s first international competition. His mum, Rebecca Bodkin, expressed immense pride in his achievements. “We are incredibly proud to share that our son, Lewis, aged 16, has been selected to represent Great Britain at this summer’s European Youth Cup in Slovenia with Archery GB. This will be his first international competition,” she stated. This is especially significant as he has balanced his rigorous training and selection for international events with his GCSEs at Burton Borough School.
The cost of the trip alone is £1,800, with additional expenses for essential kit, travel equipment, and preparation. These costs are on top of the significant investment already made by his family to support his journey through the academy, coaching, and personal training.
Lewis is appealing to friends, family, and the wider community for support to fund this trip and help him continue on his Olympic journey. Any assistance, would be greatly appreciated as he hopes to bring home some medals and create lasting memories.
