Dawley Wanderers U9s to Scale the Wrekin for New Football Kit
The Dawley Wanderers Under-9s football team are swapping their boots for hiking shoes as they prepare to tackle one of Shropshire’s most iconic landmarks — the Wrekin — all in the name of fundraising.
In a show of determination and team spirit, the young footballers will climb the hill to raise money for much-needed new kit and equipment. The initiative is a testament to the players’ dedication, both on and off the pitch, as they strive to support their team and community.
“This is about more than just new gear,” said a spokesperson for the team. “It’s about teaching these boys the value of teamwork and perseverance. They’re putting in the effort themselves, and we’re incredibly proud.”
The team is calling on the local community for support, encouraging donations of any size to help them reach their goal. Funds raised will go towards providing the players with the kit they need to continue playing the sport they love in comfort as well as equipement and winter wear.
With the team previously in the winter months playing futsal indoors, this will be the team’s first experience competing through the colder months in outdoor conditions. The funds raised will also help provide necessary winter gear and suitable training equipment to ensure the players stay warm, safe, and ready to perform — no matter the weather.
Every step they take up the Wrekin is a step toward a stronger, better-equipped team — and with community backing, they’re sure to reach the summit in more ways than one.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a big difference in helping these young athletes enjoy their football journey and face the winter months with confidence
