Shock as leading modular building firm closes
Around 125 workers at a Telford off-site modular building specialist were told yesterday that the business was going into insolvency.
Elements (Europe) Ltd, which is based at Hadley Castle Works in Telford, manufactures bathroom pods and modular rooms for apartment buildings, was at the forefront of it’s sector and had won prestigious contracts for buildings around the UK.
In 2020, the firm became under the control of GS Engineering & Construction Corporation. A Korean based, but global company, with Elements (Europe) Ltd being their only UK investment. They were the largest shareholder.
Ongoing projects include Northcotts in Watford, Motel One in Hackney, London, and the coveted Smiths Gardens project, in Digbeth, Birmingham which required around 700 modular rooms.
Factory production for the Birmingham project ceased full operation around 4 weeks ago, leaving all employees unsure of what future prospects might be, but that was confirmed yesterday when all employees were informed that insolvency had been advised with immediate effect and the website turned off.
Steve Richards who worked for Elements Europe Ltd in the Procurement team told Telford Live “We are all gutted, what promised to be a dream contract and a boost for off site construction businesses in the UK has been destroyed by ever increasing costs for materials, service and labour.”
Telford Live has been unable to contact management for more information.
