Telford Rallies Behind Dawley Wanderers U9s Ahead of Wrekin Walk Challenge This Weekend!

The final countdown is on! In just a few days, the determined young players of Dawley Wanderers U9s will lace up their boots and take on the challenge of walking the Wrekin, all in support of their footballing future and a challenge powered by the heart and generosity of the Telford community.

Thanks to an overwhelming wave of local support, the team has already smashed their fundraising target. That backing will now go directly into essential kit, winter training gear, new equipment and the tools these young players need to grow, both on and off the pitch. Helping to create future opportunities for the team to grow and succeed.

“We want to say the biggest thank you to everyone who’s supported us,” said a team spokesperson. “The response along with the kindness, encouragement and support has been amazing — we couldn’t have done it without you!”

The boys, their families, and coaches would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wider Telford community. Not only to those who donated, but also to everyone who took the time to share memories of Dawley Wanderers and their own football journeys. Your encouragement, kind words, and stories have meant so much to the team and reminded the boys what community sport is truly about. All the support received has been echoing the proud tradition of grassroots football in Telford. For these young players, it’s a powerful reminder of what being part of a club and a town really means.

But the journey doesn’t stop here. With the walk just days away, the team is still running raffles and welcoming any last-minute support. Every additional pound raised will go a long way in securing even more opportunities for these young athletes.

A special thank you also goes out to the many local businesses that have generously donated raffle prizes and supported the cause. These include:

Telford Ice Rink

JBS Martial Arts

Hair by Danielle

The Shropshire

Envy by Kylie

With just days to go, the team is still running raffles and welcoming any final donations. Every extra bit raised brings new opportunities — more training, better gear, and the chance to build something lasting for the boys and their team.

“There’s still time to get involved,” the team added. “Every ticket, every pound — it all matters.”

Let’s keep showing what Telford is made of and support Dawley Wanderers U9s as they take on the Wrekin and carry the spirit of community sport with them every step of the way and continue building a bright future for grassroots sport.
