Councillors 1500 Taxi trips – who pays?
At a recent meeting about Taxi/Private Hire Vehicle licensing, during which Councillor Chikandamina claimed that taxi drivers were sleeping on the job, it was claimed that the Cllr made 1500 taxi trips a year.
Councillor Chikandamina told a meeting of the Regulatory Committee that she is an “avid taxi person” but has been in “umpteen” taxis where the driver has been “falling asleep” at the wheel.
While Telford & Wrekin Council did not dispute the number of journeys offered by the Councillor, they did tell Telford Live that council tax payers were not footing the bill.
A spokesperson for Telford & Wrekin Council told Telford Live “…none of those taxis are paid for by Telford & Wrekin Council.
“In fact, none of our councillors claim expenses, just their standard annual allowances, and haven’t done so for some years.”
Cllr Chikandamina works for the NHS in the Women’s and children’s department.
