From Speed Dating to a Singles Movement: Six months in
What started as a small idea to bring speed dating to Shropshire has grown into something no one expected, least of all the woman who launched it.
Fast forward just six months after the launch in January, and what’s emerged is a vibrant, growing community of single people coming together not just for romance, but for connection, confidence, and company.
The events are exclusively for single people, and now include everything from singles discos, quiz nights, karaoke, comedy evenings, games nights, and even a hilarious take on the popular TV show Traitors for Daters. There are also dedicated events for those over 60, those with additional needs, and an upcoming charity games afternoon planned for September.
Organiser Pixie Greatorex said “We’ve created something that goes way beyond dating. People are making real friends, forming relationships, and feeling less alone. In rural Shropshire, it’s harder to meet new people than it would be in a city, so giving people a welcoming space to just show up and connect has made a big difference.”
The next big event is a Singles Disco on Friday 25th July at The Shropshire in Muxton, Telford, and it’s already proving popular with people of all ages.
“There’s no pressure at our events. Everyone there is single, which takes away that awkward ‘is anyone even available?’ question. You can come alone or with friends, have a dance, have a chat, and just enjoy being out with like-minded people,” Pixie added.
Speed Dating Shropshire now hosts regular events at The Shropshire in Muxton and Haughton Hall in Shifnal, with more venues and ideas in the works as the community continues to grow.
