Matalan – we have to talk

We’re used to seeing Easter Eggs in February, and Lynx gift sets adorned with holly on November 6th, but today, 5th of July, 2025, a new low was reached.

Just past the ubiquitous self-service checkouts, my eyes were drawn to a single display cube with a flash of orange.

There was no mistaking it. A pumpkin. A Halloween pumpkin jumping both the shark and the kids summer holidays. Incredible.

Was this left-over stock, found at the back of the store underneath the 2024 UEFA Euro water bottles and England Flags? Have the suppliers dropped a pallet of pumpkins instead of Wimbledon picnic sets? Who knows.

What we do know, is that a mistake must have been made. Anyway, I’m off to buy some fireworks and go home in my DeLorean.
