Newport hit by flash floods
While much of Telford remained relatively dry last night, a sudden downpour caused significant problems for residents in Newport, with some streets experiencing flash floods.
Firefighters were called to assist locals as homes were inundated and power supplies were affected.
One fire appliance from Newport was mobilised to the scene, where crews from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service worked alongside Telford and Wrekin Council and locals.

Reports indicated flooding was affecting electrical systems within properties. Firefighters helped residents isolate their electrics and unblocked drains in the street. Their assistance extended to neighbouring streets as numerous reports of flooding affecting homes continued to come in.
The incident officially concluded at 9:26 PM on Monday, July 21, 2025.
Douglas Allen, a local resident, described the scene: “Locals were trying to help save my house as it was flooding and the garage. It tripped our power. I’m disabled. They keep building more houses without upgrading the drains.”
He added, “This is the second time in the past few years. Highways came out last time and said there was no issue.”
