Plastic-free July comes to an end

As we approach the end of Plastic Free July, Telford & Wrekin Council is proud to highlight Little Green Pantry as a local sustainability success story.

Located on Wellington High Street, Little Green Pantry has become a beacon for eco-conscious living in the borough. Since opening its doors in 2021, the refill shop has helped the community divert more than 125,000 pieces of single-use plastic from landfill—an achievement that reflects the power of small, everyday actions.

Little Green Pantry offers a wide range of refillable and package-free products, from pantry staples and toiletries to household cleaning supplies. Customers bring their own containers, helping to reduce waste and promote a more circular way of shopping.

This July, the business celebrated its fourth anniversary with a series of initiatives aimed at encouraging even more residents and businesses to reduce their plastic footprint:

  • 20% discount for corporate partners throughout the month
  • Sustainability talks and natural cleaning workshops for community groups and workplaces
  • In-office pop-up shops to make plastic-free shopping more accessible

From 5 September 2025, Little Green Pantry will also soon be opening a second shop, based at Newport Indoor Market.

Councillor Carolyn Healy, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability, said: “Little Green Pantry is a fantastic example of how local businesses can lead the way in sustainability. Their work aligns perfectly with our borough-wide efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment. Thank you to residents and organisations who have taken part in Plastic Free July. Of course, you can reduce your use of single use plastics at any time of the year, and even small changes can make a big difference.”

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution. Telford & Wrekin Council is committed to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable living and reduce environmental impact across the borough.
