Thief jailed after Town Centre ban

A shoplifter from Telford has been sent to prison after breaking a court order just weeks after it was imposed. Nathan Stern, of Wealdstone, Woodside, was handed a 10-week sentence after admitting to three counts of theft from shops.

The 34-year-old was already subject to a suspended sentence and a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) given to him on June 16. The CBO banned him from several locations in the Telford area until June 2028. These included Telford Town Centre (except the bus station), the Co-op in Stirchley, Asda in Malinslee, and The Range at Telford Bridge Retail Park.

Stern was arrested on Thursday, July 25, after being identified in connection with three thefts. These incidents, which included a theft from the Co-op in Stirchley, occurred on June 30, July 1, and July 3. He pleaded guilty to the thefts and breaching his CBO at Telford Magistrates Court on Friday, July 25.

Sergeant Rich Jones, from the Telford Town Centre Team, commented on the outcome. “Thanks to officers and members of the public helping us to enforce Stern’s CBO, another prolific Telford shoplifter has been put behind bars,” he said. “Stern’s actions have an impact on the safety and wellbeing of employees working within the stores, which has now been prevented thanks to their help.”
