Green grants up for grabs

Community groups in Telford and Wrekin have the chance to secure a share of £15,000 to enhance local environments. The EnviroGrant 2025 scheme, launched by Telford & Wrekin Council’s recycling and waste partner Veolia, offers successful applicants up to £1,000 each.

Since its inception in 2014, the scheme has provided nearly £200,000 to over 190 community projects. A notable example from last year saw the Telford African and Afro-Caribbean Resource Centre (TAARC) use a grant to purchase tools and seeds for their community garden.

Councillor Carolyn Healy, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability at Telford & Wrekin Council, expressed pride in the scheme’s impact. “Through our strong partnership with Veolia, we’ve been able to support over 190 community-led projects that are making a real difference to our environment and the wellbeing of our residents,” she stated.

Jim Greenhalgh, Contract Manager at Veolia Telford and Wrekin, encouraged applications. He said, “The Telford African and Afro-Caribbean Resource Centre is just one of many community groups that have benefitted from the EnviroGrant, and we look forward to funding even more fantastic initiatives this year.”

Nathalie Headley, Chair of Trustees at TAARC, highlighted the positive changes brought by their project. “The Summer House Community Garden project has been transformative. It has brought people of all ages together, improved wellbeing and strengthened bonds within the community,” she added.

Projects that aim to improve or protect the environment through practical action, education, or activities that uplift community quality of life are invited to apply. Applications will be open until 31 October 2025.
