Telford Street Food vendor brings new flavours

A new street food option has opened up in Wellington, bringing a unique taste to the town. Chaii Kin, located in the car park of the Swan Hotel, has been serving a curated menu to customers for three months.

The venture is the creation of local residents, Fraz and Athar. Fraz, a former software engineer and coffee roaster, partnered with Athar, a chef, to create a menu featuring items not typically found in the area.

Among the popular items are the Philly cheese steak, Aberdeen Angus beef burgers with their own spice mix, and a large samosa chaat, a street snack with chickpea curry, spices, and sauces. The bread for their dishes is sourced from a local bakery.

The menu is carefully curated to offer something different

For those seeking a lighter meal, the ‘Mr Healthy Kin’ offers grilled tandoori chicken on a bed of couscous and salad. The menu also includes masala fries and desserts such as churros.

The business also serves karak chaii, a strong, spiced tea that is popular in the Persian Gulf. Fraz explained that the idea had been 18 months in the making after he had received encouragement from people he had catered for at charity events.

According to Fraz, social media has been key in getting the word out, with people travelling from across the UK to sample their food. He cited a local business for inspiration, saying, “Norma from Ureys has been very supportive and helpful. We hope to repay the kindness when Norma opens up her new place next year.”

Chaii Kin is open from 12 pm to 10 pm from Saturday to Thursday, and from 2 pm to 10 pm on Fridays. You can order through Just Eat or visit the location, where parking is available.
