Wrekin fire out, but you might see firefighters around later today
The first call to alert the fire service to a fire on the Wrekin came in around 9:20pm on Saturday night.
It proved unsafe for the teams to tackle the fire during darkness, and in such a challenging location.
The seat of the fire was around half way up the Wrekin, facing North-West towards Shrewsbury.
Crews from all over the county reconvened at daybreak to start to get the fire under control, and they were joined at 9am by West Mercia Search & Rescue volunteers to help to control visitors to the area.
While the fire was not huge, the risk of a change in wind speeds could have forced the fire to spread further.
By 1pm the fire was out and teams were making their way down with their equipment.
There are plans to send the thermal imaging drone up later this afternoon and again this evening to ensure there is no reignition or spread.
