Parcel delivery scooter seized by police

Police have seized an e-scooter with a trailer attached in Hadley Park Road, Leegomery. The adapted vehicle was being used for parcel deliveries last week by a man in his 40s.

The public had reported the e-scooter towing the trailer in the Leegomery area. After finding the man, PC Ryan Davies and PCSO Josh Peel took the vehicle, but allowed the man to keep the trailer so he could continue his deliveries on foot.

E-scooters are currently illegal to use on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes, or pedestrian-only areas unless they are part of a legal loan scheme. West Mercia Police does not have any legal schemes in place in Shropshire, and as such, e-scooters can only be ridden on private land with the owner’s permission.

E-scooters are classed as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs) by the government and are subject to the same regulations as motor vehicles, requiring insurance, tax, MOT, a licence, and registration. There is no mechanism to obtain these for e-scooters, making their use in public areas illegal.
