Telford MP visits local army and air cadets
Shaun Davies, the Member of Parliament for Telford, recently visited local cadets at the Army Reserve centre. He met with cadets from D Squadron, The Royal Yeomanry, as well as the town’s Air Cadets.
The visit follows the Government’s recent announcement of a £70 million investment into the ‘30 by 30’ campaign. This initiative aims to boost participation in cadet forces by 30% by the year 2030.
During his time with the cadets, Mr Davies discussed what they enjoyed about their experience and what could be improved. This discussion was aimed at finding ways to boost new sign-ups.
Mr Davies said: “It was a great evening meeting with both the army and air cadets, they are an inspiring, confident group of young people. They gave me great insight into how this funding will maximise their experiences and raise awareness for their squad in Dawley. I’m looking forward to seeing their journeys and how this government can support them.”
Alistar Carns, the minister for veterans and people, commented: “Every young person deserves the chance to discover their potential, regardless of their postcode and family income. The cadet experience doesn’t just build character – it transforms futures, helping young people build confidence, develop skills, and meet new people.”
Local cadet groups offer young people qualifications and skills that can be used in all areas of life, as well as providing opportunities to make new social connections. There are currently 12,680 cadets in the West Midlands, with the new government funding set to help reach the goal of a 30% increase by 2030.
