“They are stinging people from every angle”

Around 70 drivers took action this morning over lack of engagement with platform Veezu following the imposition of new terms.

The strike took place at peak time this morning, between 7am and 9am, and the spokesperson told Telford Live that further action could not be ruled out.

From documentation we have seen, drivers will be on a sliding scale for accepting more fares, with a cap at £142 a week for taking more than 30 bookings a week, but drivers will have to pay 30% “Weekly Access Fee” commission for taking 10 bookings a week or fewer.

All fares now attract a booking fee ranging between 30p and 50p – up from 20p – a trip and this is outside of the cap.

Previously the partner drivers were charged a fixed 18%.  The minimum now will be 20% for taking more than 30 bookings a week.

The new rates penalise drivers doing fewer runs, and a spokesperson representing 200 drivers told Telford Live that this would affect drivers income, some of whom are barely making minimum wage.

He told Telford Live “Drivers are going to be paying about £30/40 a week more in rent per week, plus charging customers more with the surcharge, they are stinging people from every angle.”

A letter was delivered last week to Veezu offices in Ketley outlining the drivers grievances, but despite todays action, no meeting has yet been arranged.
