Votes open for local high street heroes
Local businesses and high streets across the borough are being celebrated as votes for the High Street Heroes 2025 awards open today. Residents and the public can now nominate their favourite businesses for their positive impact on communities throughout Telford and Wrekin.
The awards, run by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pride in Our High Street programme, recognise the support that businesses give to local areas. Businesses from hair salons and cafes to butchers and clothes shops are all eligible to be nominated.
The Pride in Our High Street programme also supports local businesses through start-up trial grants and permanent start-up grants. These grants allow businesses to test out a physical space, such as a market stall or pop-up unit, before committing to a permanent high street presence.
Voting for the High Street Heroes awards closes on 20 October. The winners will be announced in the lead-up to Small Business Saturday on 6 December, receiving a trophy and a certificate.
Councillor Ollie Vickers, Cabinet Member for the Economy and Transport, commented on the awards. “We’re delighted to celebrate the positive impact that businesses and shops have on our high streets once again. Although these remain challenging times, businesses continue to make a difference to local people and communities.”
He added: “Our small, independent businesses are so important across Telford and Wrekin and their value is recognised by Telford & Wrekin Council through these awards which are voted for by customers and other businesses.”
The awards will be given out to businesses in all six towns in the borough: Dawley, Ironbridge, Madeley, Newport, Oakengates and Wellington.
