21st Century Communication Kiosks planned for Telford

Plans have gone in for a number of Communications Kiosks around the shopping centre in Telford.

Think of a phone box, but with a digital screen on the rear than can show adverts and information, plus a defibrillator device to save lives.

They grey kiosks are open to the elements on two sides.  Applicants New World Payphones say in their application: “With the New Communications Kiosk, the objective was to create an instantly recognisable yet modern kiosk; recognisability linking directly to utility.”

The telephone equipment will be cashless, and UK calls will be free of charge.

A spokesperson from New World Payphones told Telford Live “… around 2.68 million people in the UK do not own a mobile phone, and according to the latest Ofcom data, almost 150,000 calls were made to emergency services from phone boxes, including the New World Payphones kiosks.”

The kiosks are planned for near Adsa, Hollinsgate Roundabout  and Lawn Central around the shopping centre.
