Burglary down, but sex offences up

Overall crime continues to fall in West Mercia according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics which registered a drop across the board.

Delivering on Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion’s commitment to ‘Cutting crime’, as out in his Safer Communities Plan, total recorded crime fell by 4% between July 2024 and June 2025. This follows a 6% drop recorded earlier in the year.

Some of the biggest fallers include burglary at 19%, incidents of serious violence at 9%, overall theft at 8%, and shoplifting at 5%.

In contrast, sexual offences have increased by 9%, in line with the national average, and theft from a person has risen by 69 to 382 (22%).

Commenting on the figures, PCC John Campion said: “A reduction in crime is always welcome, with this long-term trend a testament to the dedication of the hardworking men and women who make up West Mercia’s thin blue line.

“In my role, I regularly engage with the public to understand their lived experiences as it cannot only be about the data, but also how safe they feel.

“Those conversations make it clear that there’s still more to do to ensure they feel the benefits of less crime, and at the same time, ensuring the resources are available to address some concerning upward trends.

“That’s why I will continue to use my voice to support and challenge the Chief Constable to ensure crime rates are not just statistics, but a reflection of safer, more confident communities.”

  • My two friends where walking up to town centre on pavement from holiday inn

This guy came across the road and asked for there phones money my friend said no way he then shot her in the head with an air gun and ran.

The other woman called police they said not a lot of people here can you walk up to the police station at manislee. She asked if someone good fetch them as her friend was bleeding from shot to her head.

No was the answer they looked at cameras but could not make him out.shocking
I had to phone the police from my car as my mum who is in her 80s had rang to say guy on her doorstep shouting to upstairs window can you give me some money he was high on drugs.
The police said no crime commented so don’t come out so I was left to get a druggie out my mums garden who could have been carrying a knife thanks goodness he had gone.

So to say crime is down only last week someone said in coniston priorslee had people pinching milk eggs juice off the doorstep I have been told that they live in a tent by the lake by priors lodge and they are on drugs there was a drug house there recently.I don’t know where they get there numbers from but after living in Telford for 52 years the crime is more not less as they have to pay for there drug habit.it looks like the same people that are on St George’s post so they just target another area.
