Fire in Newport pub
A fire broke out in the ground-floor kitchen of a public house in Newport last night, requiring five fire crews to attend the scene.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received the call at 8:29 pm on Tuesday, 30 September, reporting the property fire at The Barley Mow in the High Street.
A total of six fire appliances were mobilised to the incident from stations across the area, including Albrighton, Newport, Telford, Tweedale, and Wellington, alongside the Incident Command Unit. Police officers were also in attendance.
Crews used six sets of breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze within the pub’s kitchen. They deployed a combination of two main jets and three hosereel jets to bring the fire under control.
Positive Pressure Ventilation fans were used to help clear smoke from the building following the operation.
An eyewitness saw the fire service going into Boughey House, a neighbouring property as well as the barley pub.
The full extent of the damage to the pub’s ground floor kitchen is not yet known.
