NHS staff celebrated for long service

More than 35 employees working across Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) have been honoured for dedicating a combined total of over 1,100 years to the health service. The Trust, which manages the county’s acute hospitals, held a celebration to recognise staff reaching their 25 and 40-year service milestones.

Staff from the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) gathered with the hospitals’ executive team to mark their achievements.

Carl Ray, a Medical Equipment Team Leader, was among those celebrated. He began his career in 2000 as a Medical Technical Officer and moved to PRH in 2014.

Mr Ray has been recognised for his work, including mentoring junior colleagues. He was named Leader of the Year at the Trust’s 2025 Celebratory Awards.

His dedication was also highlighted earlier this year when he volunteered to assist the Estates team out of hours during a flood at the PRH site.

Group Chair, Andrew Morgan, presented Mr Ray with his award. He said: “It is an honour to take part in this celebration – to dedicate your entire career to the NHS is an outstanding feat, and we are grateful for your contributions.”

Gill Johns, a Senior Practice Education Facilitator, was also celebrated. Throughout her long career, she has worked as a staff nurse, ward manager, and clinical site manager.

She is a founding member of the clinical practice educator team and has focused on raising and maintaining high standards of clinical care, teaching, and training.

40 Years Service

Jo Williams, Chief Executive, spoke at the event. She said: “It is an absolute honour to celebrate our colleagues at the Long Service Awards. With so much experience in the room, this is a powerful reminder of the dedication, compassion and commitment that sits at the heart of the NHS.”
