Shoplifter jailed for ignoring court order

A persistent shoplifter who breached a court order banning her from certain stores has been sentenced to eight months in prison after appearing at Telford Magistrates Court.

Charlotte Corbett, 25, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty on Monday (27 October) to breaching her Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). She also admitted to three counts of theft from stores in the area.

Corbett was arrested on Sunday (26 October) after police were alerted to two thefts from Boots in Wellington and a theft from the Co-op in Stirchley.

The CBO was issued to her in March this year and prevented her from entering specific shops around the town.

PC Jodie Close, from the Telford town centre policing team, commented on the case.

She said: “Thanks to members of the public we have been able to successfully enforce Corbett’s CBO, and as a result a prolific Telford shoplifter has been put before the courts and given an eight-month custodial sentence.”
