Crash shuts road after three-car pile-up

Fire crews and paramedics freed a person who was trapped following a serious three-vehicle crash on the A442 near Crudgington yesterday afternoon.

The emergency services were alerted at 3:03pm on Sunday, November 2, after a call reporting a road traffic collision with people trapped.

Three fire appliances, including the specialist Rescue Tender, were quickly sent to the scene by Wellington station ground.

Upon arrival, fire crews worked to make the vehicles electrically safe and give initial care to the casualty.

With the Land Ambulance Service and Police in attendance, the decision was made to remove the roof of one of the vehicles. Crews used specialist cutters and spreaders to safely extricate the trapped person.

The casualty was then taken to hospital by the land ambulance service.

The fire service confirmed that the incident concluded just over an hour later at 4:21pm.
A social media post from the fire service’s Amber and Blue Watch said, “We wish all those involved a speedy recovery.”
