Review: Wicked for Good
Jason Wright went to see Wicked for Good (2025)
The highly anticipated cinematic conclusion, Wicked for Good, has finally arrived, following on from the first instalment. This second part, which tells the story of Glinda protecting the Wicked Witch of the West, is a significantly more exciting affair.
For some, this film will be their first introduction to the world of Oz, it was for me. In fact I’ve never seen the original movie and only know Wizard of OZ from the level in LEGO Dimensions.
Wicked for Good focuses on Glinda, played by Ariana Grande, as she tries to maintain her icon status in Oz while secretly shielding the Wicked Witch of the West, played by Cynthia Erivo.
First the good: this movie was visually stunning, from the set pieces to the costumes. I found this very nice to look at. Also it has plenty of action to keep you on your seats and high stakes moments that make you wonder if everyone will make it.
Now for the Music. The music for this movie is really well performed by it’s cast, especially its two leads. It certainly helps that Glinda is played by superstar vocalist Ariana Grande. Speaking of which, the chemistry with Ariana Grande and Cythia Evro just lands really well; the pair share a special bond and you can tell in their performance.
Now for the bad, okay not that bad, but a nit-pick, I do feel the ending dragged out a bit too long. Also, I felt that when she isn’t singing, Ariana Grande’s acting isn’t quite up to standards.
Overall, I’d give this a WICKED 7.5. It didn’t quite get the spell right for a perfect movie, but it did brew enough potions for a good night out at the cinema.
Wicked for Good is showing at Wellington Orbit from 5th December – Adult tickets £10, Concessions from £7.20 and Family of Four for £24: https://wellingtonorbit.co.uk/film/1097/wicked-for-good/
