Strong turnout for Telford MP’s coffee morning

Telford MP Shaun Davies held his latest community coffee morning in Oakengates last week, meeting with dozens of residents and local organisations at The Wakes on Friday morning.

The event, held from 10am to 12pm, gave residents the opportunity to speak directly with their MP about local issues, share ideas for improving the town, and access support from a wide range of partner organisations.

Among those joining the session were representatives from Telford Mind, West Mercia Police, The Wrekin Housing Group, Telford & Wrekin Council, and Citizens Advice, alongside other local partners providing advice on matters such as housing, finance, health, and community safety.

Shaun described the event as a brilliant example of the importance of continuing to meet residents face-to-face.

“It was fantastic to see so many people come along in Oakengates today” Shaun said. “Hearing directly from residents helps me do my job better and ensures their voices are at the heart of my work in Parliament. I want to thank everyone who came to speak with me, and the local organisations who supported residents with their expert advice and guidance.”

As part of Shaun’s ongoing resident event series, the Oakengates coffee morning follows a range of community activities across Telford including in-person and online surgeries, supermarket drop-ins, and “MP in Your Street” visits.

Each event is designed to make it easier for residents to connect with their MP and raise the issues that matter most to them. “I’ll always stand up for Telford and make sure residents’ concerns are heard loud and clear,” Shaun added. “Events like this show the real value of community engagement — people coming together to make our town stronger.”

Linda a Telford resident who attended the event today said: “He’s so approachable. I’ve only met him once before and he remembered us today. It was like greeting an old friend. He’s a really good chap. If you look at his record, which I have, he’s right about at the top there of MPs that work, and by golly he works.”

Nick from Housing Plus Group, said: “He’s seen an awful lot of people with an awful lot of issues that he’s (Shaun) picked up on and he’s going to help people. This was a really positive and really constructive thing to be doing. Quite a few people have approached us about accommodation which is what we do. So, we’ve been giving them advice on how they can access accommodation. We’ve got a list of things to take back and feedback to people.”

Shaun’s November event is a surgery in Telford Town Centre which will be open for bookings from next week on Shaun’s website.
