Community support blossoms at Wellington station

The platform at Wellington Station is looking brighter and more welcoming, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Friends of Wellington Station and some fantastic support from the local community and organisations.

The Friends group, who work tirelessly to ensure the station is a pleasant space for commuters and visitors alike, are celebrating several recent improvements.

A significant addition to the station comes in the form of brand-new planters which were crafted by talented students Tyler Klimowski and Lucas Davies from Telford College. “We are absolutely delighted with the new planters,” said Kath Howard for the Friends of Wellington Station.

“They are a wonderful testament to the students’ woodworking skills and it’s been great to see young students involved with their local station.” In addition to the planters made by the students, Leslie Gough from The Wellington Cobbler generously provided engraved plaques that fit on the planters to give recognition to the students. Wellington Rotary have also sponsored one of the planters.

The Friends of the station group have also focused on revitalizing one of the station’s signature features: the lavender terrace. The group has successfully replanted the beds made possible by a generous grant from the Wrekin Housing Group. Furthermore, the group received invaluable assistance and a kind donation of lavender plants from Meadowdale Garden Centre in Horsehay.

Wellington Mayor Reg Snell joined members of the Friends of the Station group, along with representatives from Meadowdale, The Wrekin Housing Group and Wellington Rotary Club, to mark the completion of the refreshed terrace. “Today we celebrate the revitalisation of the Lavender Terrace, made possible by the generosity of The Wrekin Housing Group and Meadowdale Garden Centre, the support of The Rotary Club and by the dedication of the Friends who care for this community,” he said.

“Your efforts to make the station presentable do not go unnoticed, and I would like to thank everyone involved for their continued support in making our station a welcoming space for all who travel to and from our town.”
