A parcel of woodland known as Glede Wood, near Telford in Shropshire, has been put up for sale with a price tag of £78,000. The 5.31-acre site is located at the edge of a larger forest and offers views across the pasture towards Lilleshall village.

The land consists of mixed hardwoods including oak, wych elm, horse chestnut and sycamore. Many of these were planted in the 1990s and are now well-established. Open areas have been created where ash trees were previously felled.

Wildlife is a prominent feature of the site, which contains several shallow ponds. Visitors may spot ducks, toads and dragonflies. Woodpeckers and owls are also present in the trees.

The ground is level and well-drained, with bluebells and wild garlic appearing in the spring. Previous owners have used the area for family camping. A caravan and a canvas tent currently remain on the property.

Potential buyers should note that residential planning permission is considered extremely unlikely. Covenants also prevent the land from being used for commercial campsites or clay pigeon shooting.

A local forester has suggested that some trees could be thinned for firewood. Jude says, “I would thin out some of the poorer trees (this would make perfect firewood). With a view to encouraging further wildlife to the area, I would look to enhance the ponds, perhaps clear the sides a bit to open them up and make into more of a feature”.
