New homes ready in St Georges regeneration project

Nuplace tenants are beginning to move into new homes in St Georges as a major regeneration project, which includes the restoration of a historical building, reaches completion.

The brand new new homes for private rent starting at £900 per month, located at the Gower, are now ready for occupation.

Delivered in partnership with Lovell, the development comprises ten newly constructed two-bedroom homes alongside three two-bedroom homes located within the converted southern wing of the Grade II listed building. The structure originally opened as a community hospital in 1873.

The central core and northern wing of the building are scheduled to be converted into a new community space, as well as offices for St Georges and Priorslee Parish Council, with completion anticipated by next summer.

The parish council currently operates from St Georges Primary School. The planned move next summer will therefore make space available within the school premises for staff and pupils.

The Gower restoration is one of several projects being delivered through the Council’s Investing in Telford and Wrekin programme.

Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, commented: “This is an exciting day and a key milestone in this development. The completion of these homes at the Gower demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in quality housing across Telford and Wrekin.”

“Through Nuplace, we’re not only meeting private rent housing demand but doing so in a way that adds value to our communities. These thirteen new homes – a mix of sensitively converted heritage properties and modern new builds – represent the kind of thoughtful development our residents deserve.”

Councillor Carolyn Healy, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability, said: “We’re incredibly proud to deliver a scheme of this quality. The sympathetic restoration of the Gower is saving a historical building, which has stood in the centre of the community since 1873.”

“This showcases our commitment to preserving the Borough’s architectural heritage whilst creating modern, comfortable homes. The careful conversion of this Grade II listed building has retained its original character features, ensuring that future residents will enjoy the unique charm of living in a piece of St Georges history.”

Stuart Penn, Regional Managing Director at Lovell, said: “The Gower is an exemplary project that showcases how new build and retrofit can be delivered together, through the right public and private sector partnerships.”

“The handover of these homes is a significant milestone that reflects our efforts to ensure the regeneration is in keeping with the listed status, for the benefit of the community and supporting local housing demand in a sustainable way. We hope the residents enjoy their new homes and we look forward to working with Nuplace again in the future.”
