Council organises extra crews to clear trees after Storm Goretti
The roadsides in Telford tell a story following the snow that fell last week. The weight of the snow on the branches caused a huge number of trees to fall across roads and paths. While these were chopped back to allow safe passage, the debris remained close to the road edge.
Telford and Wrekin Council has already received more than 400 reports of damage, with the total number expected to exceed 500 as inspections continue.
Emergency lane closures were implemented overnight on the A442 and A4169 to allow workers to remove debris from high-speed routes. Extra teams have been brought in to help council staff manage the high volume of calls.
Councillor Carolyn Healy, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability said: “We are proud of the way our crews are reacting, who can always be relied upon to be out when it counts.”
The response is focused on keeping the borough safe and ensuring main roads remain open. Work is being carried out in stages, with an initial clearance to make areas safe followed by felling and chipping.
Residents are being asked to report any fallen trees they see rather than assuming someone else has done so. Reports can be made through the council website, while an emergency line is available for issues involving blocked access or damage to property.
Have you seen a fallen tree? Please report it rather than assume someone else has done so. Community reports help the Council respond quickly and keep roads and footpaths safe.
