Samuarai swords amongst 40 weapons seized during police raid
More than 40 offensive weapons have been taken off the streets following a police raid at a property in Wellington.
Officers from the West Mercia Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams carried out the warrant in the Telford town after receiving information from members of the public.
The search was executed under Section 46 of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019. These prohibited items have been removed from circulation to help keep the local community safe.
Police have thanked residents for providing the intelligence that led to the discovery.
PC 943 Marchant, who led the warrant, said: “I’d like to thank the public for providing information that led to today’s warrant being executed.
“We acted swiftly on the intelligence received and the seizure of these weapons shows how important it is that members of public have confidence to contact the police.
“Every weapon taken off the streets reduces the risk of serious harm.”
The raid forms part of wider efforts to tackle knife crime through Operation Sceptre. This national campaign aims to remove weapons from the streets and educate people on the dangers of carrying blades.
Amnesty bins are currently available at police stations for the anonymous disposal of weapons.
Under the Offensive Weapons Act 2019, it is an offence to possess some bladed items, even inside a private address.
